Promoting evidence use with decisions at the national level
Currently, I am an ESRC IAA Knowledge Exchange Fellow working to co-produce and implement elements of an Academic Engagement programme.
I also work part-time as a Research Associate with the UK Evidence Information Service (EIS). The primary goal of the EIS is to act as a rapid matchmaker to connect the UK academic community and decision-makers (including parliamentarians) in the service of evidence-informed public policy.
As part of this Research Associate role, I am:
developing an understanding of the framework of UK parliamentary research service outputs
gathering evidence and an understanding of current barriers for academics to engage with parliamentary processes
facilitating connections between academia and parliamentary research services
building relationships with the research services at all four UK legislative bodies
National Assembly for Wales
Northern Ireland Assembly
Additionally, I have:
completed a NERC-funded Fellowship at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) to research and publish a briefing note
contributed to a long-term project to understand the use of research in the UK Parliament (with POST)
contributed to a parliamentary group exploring the barriers for under-represented groups of academics to engage with parliamentary processes (with Universities Programme at Houses of Parliament and POST)
